Learning Approach

Each child is treated individually, with respect, to ensure that their abilities are nurtured to give them maximum potential for lifelong development. Children at Mount Sinai Preschool celebrate and recognize their Jewish identity and develop a strong understanding of their Jewish heritage, traditions, customs and culture.

Children’s learning does not occur in narrowly defined subject areas, their learning and development are integrated. An activity that stimulates one dimension of development and learning affects other dimensions as well. Our curriculum planning is based on teacher observations and recordings of each child’s special interests and developmental progress. Goals and predictions are based on regular evaluation and reflection.

Our program provides for a wide range of developmental interests and abilities. We are prepared to meet the needs of children who exhibit interests and abilities outside the average developmental range. We provide a variety of activities and materials, increasing the difficulty, complexity and challenge as children are involved and as their interaction dictates, and their understanding and skills develop.
