Preparatory School Readiness

Located in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, the Mount Sinai Preparatory school readiness year is a holistic preschool program led by university-qualified Early Childhood Educators who create an environment where fun and educational play experiences, spontaneous activities and guided learning encounters provide your child with the social and emotional support needed to enter into the Primary school environment.

The school readiness curriculum is integrated throughout each day, within a variety of structured and unstructured learning experiences that cater towards a preschool learning environment. The daily routines provide your child with the emotional stability needed to ensure behaviour management, attention and focus in a preschool environment.

The Preparatory class program is based on an emergent preschool curriculum model centred around the children’s individual needs, interests and abilities.

The Aim of Preparatory:

At Mount Sinai College, our goal is to nurture lifelong, confident learners and effective communicators by fostering each child’s natural sense of wonder and curiosity. We want children to learn, inquire, ask questions, and develop the ability to think deeply about the world around them.

Through their Preparatory experience, children are supported to:

  • Confidently approach tasks.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of preschool age-appropriate literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Develop a phonemic knowledge of words.
  • Work in groups.
  • Follow instructions.
  • Build independence.
  • Build school readiness skills.

This is achieved through our Play-Based Learning Model, where children develop essential life skills such as sharing, turn-taking, problem-solving, managing emotions, and effective communication. At the same time, they are introduced to the Six Key Learning Areas of the NSW Kindergarten Curriculum:

- English
- Mathematics
- Science and Technology
- Human Society and Its Environment
- Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
- Creative Arts

My child flourished at MSC ELC and has further excelled at prep where she is in a focused environment for children between the ages 4-5. We are continuously surprised at the level of education and her love for learning. Located on the main campus the children feel like they are included in certain school events, have lessons with the school’s teachers such as Rabbi Yossi and Coach Joel, and group activities with the school students such as the buddy program.
